چکیده

This article presents an agile passive-mixer-first superheterodyne RF front-end that utilizes a gigahertz acoustic filter as its intermediate-frequency (IF) load-essentially mixer-first acoustic-filtering front-end. The passive mixer frequency-translates sharp but fixed-frequency response to much higher and mixer-clock-defined tunable frequency while preserves input matching, high linearity, introduces minimal loss. In contrast low- or zero-IF receivers which often use active filters at baseband, using the IF load is fraught with fundamental challenges. We introduce ON-chip LC tanks, impedance shaper, suppress components harmonic frequencies all-passive recombination network share one among multiple paths. Also, we extend existing analysis of front-ends from assuming low-pass having generic impedance. Our unveils aliasing in front-end, motivating need for shaper. A prototype 65-nm CMOS switched- followed by off-the-shelf 1.6-GHz surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) designed. measurement, operates across 2.5-to-4.5 GHz achieving 5.5-dB noise figure +29.4-dBm IIP3 1 × bandwidth offset.

Rf Front-end Design with Copper Passive Components

In this paper we evaluate the impact of copper passive components on RF circuit performance. A fully-differential RF Front-end is used as a test vehicle to compare the UMC 0.18 micron copper process with a traditional 0.25 micron aluminium process. The RF Front-end contains a balun and a low noise amplifier (LNA) that are designed with spiral inductors and capacitors. Spiral inductor Q values r...

Passive mixer with OPA filter for DVB-H front-end in 65 nm digital CMOS technology

This paper presents a passive mixer combined with a 1st-order active low-pass filter implemented in a purely digital low-power 65 nm CMOS technology. The filter consists of a four-stage operational amplifier with two feed-forward paths for a 3 dB corner frequency of 4 MHz. The mixer offers a very low flicker noise corner frequency of 80 Hz for DVB-H application. A fabricated test chip with inte...

A Low Voltage Low Power RF/Analog Front-end Circuit for Passive UHF RFID Tag

This paper presents a low voltage low power RF/analog front-end circuit for passive ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) tag. Temperature compensation is achieved by a reference generator using sub-threshold techniques which requires lower supply voltage than conventional bandgap circuit. Some novel structures are developed to construct the building blocks, including...

2.1 Mobile RF Front End Integration

The mobile phone has become a big part of our daily lives, which has created an exponential growth in network data and an ever-increasing complex RF Front End to support this growth. This in turn has demanded more complex requirements for the filters, switches and power amplifiers (PA) in the front end. In order to address this increase in complexity, there has been a migration from discrete so...

Green radio despite "Dirty RF" front-end

In this article, we show that the non-ideal Radio-Frequency (RF) front-ends have to be corrected in order to contribute in a Green radio development. In fact, the effects of typical RF imperfections, like nonlinearities, carrier frequency offsets, and IQ imbalances, can be compensated for, when digital correction algorithms are applied. Such algorithms enable Green applications (e.g., Orthogona...
